Eclipse moving swiftly ahead

Filming of the big screen adaptation of Stephenie Meyer’s best-selling book Eclipse is moving full-steam ahead here in the Pacific Northwest, it seems.

Cast and crew began filming “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” – the third in the series –this past week in Vancouver, Canada – and already, things are progressing swiftly.

Director David Slade posted on his Twitter account Saturday, “Wrapped first week, probably most challenging week of our shoot. Last night Xavier Samuels delivered as astonish power performance, all good.”

Bloggers and fan sites have also been keeping track of production this week on “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.” Over at the Twilight Lexicon, they write, “It’s always interesting when franchise movies change directors. Everyone has something new to bring to the project. So far from what we can tell as the casual observer, David Slade seems to be plowing ahead with efficiency while maintaining a sense of humor.”

The website Lainey Gossip posted photos of actors Bryce Dallas Howard as Victoria and Xavier Samuels as Riley, filming an intimate scene under an overpass at night. Blogger Malicious Mandy and some of her friends tracked down the set as filming was underway, posting a detailed – albeit fangirl-esque – account of what they witnessed.

Malicious Mandy also tracked down another set location on Friday, at a parking lot somewhere in the Vancouver, B.C. area. She managed to capture some video of the set area and a few photos. It’s still unclear what scenes where being filmed in the lot, and which characters were involved, but based on David Slade’s tweet, it’s possible Xavier Samuels was involved. If so, that could mean Friday’s shoot may be a scene for the Seattle murder spree that takes place during Eclipse.

Earlier in the week, TwiFans tracked down another set location at a barn. Based on their photos and fan speculation, it looks like some kind of flashback scene was being filmed. There is debate amongst fans over whether the flashback involved the past of Jasper or Rosalie – both members of the Cullen family.

Despite all the speculation, one thing is clear: fans’ desire for any news on their favorite franchise is not waning any time soon. They've got one movie on the way this fall, another next year, plus a bevy offestivals and conventions that focus on Twilight and Young Adult Literature to whet their appetites.
